The development of the game from time to time has increased significantly. Both in terms of graphics and game ideas. With the support of quite advanced technology, we can experience game graphics that are close to real and movements that resemble real living creatures.
But it is undeniable that no matter how good a game is, there must be something bad or failing.
Who are they who deserve to be called the worst game? Without further ado, let’s discuss together what the worst games are.
10. Street Fighter V
Actually, I’m “a bit” less willing to call Street Fighter V the worst game of 2022, because the game mechanics are more solid (FADC was a mistake) and overall it feels visually neater than its predecessor. It’s just that it can’t be denied that Capcom’s steps in releasing this game are very bad.
More or less the inaugural launch of Street Fighter V is like seeing a walking skeleton. There is no Versus mode, Arcade and Story Mode, the map interaction feature is absent except for one map, you have to grind hard enough to get Fight Money, even the server is down. In the end, thanks to Internet technology, Capcom managed to fix it slowly, but the sad state of the release made me have to make it the opener on the list of “Worst Games 2022.”
9. Bombshell
There’s not much I can discuss about Bombshell because this game is not very memorable. Starting as one of the titles in Duke Nukem’s classic first-person shooter series, Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction, in this top-down action RPG, you take on the role of opposing Duke Nukem’s own concept: a badass sexy girl named Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison.
Unfortunately, the concept that might be interesting is not enough to become a building block for a fun game and ends up as a shooter game full of bugs, repetitive, boring, and a loot system that doesn’t provide meaningful game variations. “Bad ass” is literally possible.
8. Dead or Alive Extreme 3
This “simple” game, which prioritizes fanservice elements, should be able to be equipped with features from previous games and keep adding new features, right? For some reason, through Dead or Alive Extreme 3, Koei Tecmo proved that my theory was wrong.
Not only were they released by eliminating old characters such as Tina, Christie, Lisa, and Leifang, they also intentionally forgot the two newcomers Mila and Rachel. In terms of minigames, motorboat racing is no longer present in this newest title.
I understand that this kind of game only relies on sexy characters (and DLC costumes to make money for fans), but at least all the features and characters from the previous games are brought too. Failed to understand my blas.
7. Assassin’s Creed Chronicle: India
Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India not only failed to help diversify and revive an adventure series that already seemed boring to gamers, but also made games with “2D cameras” less attractive for mainstream gamers.
Unlike Mark of The Ninja which is able to provide flexibility to play even though it is “impeded” by the 2D design, this game relies too much on instant failure and underhanded ambush tactics like jump scares in horror films, making each failure frustrating instead of making you want to try again.
6. Langrisser Re:Incarnation Tensei
If you’re looking for an RPG strategy game to fill your 3DS, it’s best to just play Fire Emblem Awakening and the three Fire Emblem Fates routes. Because the latest title from the Langrisser series, you should stay away as far as possible.
Not only fantasy settings and characters feel very generic and boring, the combat system is also dominated by close combat. Magic attacks are very ineffective. Make the game monotonous. Then added with animation and chibi character models during battle that look ugly. Well, the strategy RPG genre is indeed a niche, but that doesn’t mean it’s an excuse to make bad games.
5. The Walking Dead: Michonne
It’s undeniable that Telltale Games’ ability to bring point and click games into a modern format and capture the hearts of its players is undeniable. However, with great popularity comes great responsibility.
It seems that while working on The Walking Dead: Michonne, Telltale was already too busy because they had just finished Tales from Borderlands and also prepared Batman. Even though it features quite popular characters, this The Walking Dead game not only has an unimpressive story but also has a very minimal presence. Not many people talk about it either before or after its release.
4. Homefront: The Revolution
When it was announced that the Homefront game would get a sequel, I didn’t think anyone cared. How not, the first game is just below average. The graphics are mediocre, the shadow effects are terrible, the characters are very bland. Only the super ridiculous premise of “the United States is controlled by North Korea” alone made people raise their eyebrows and then immediately forgot about it when they heard Total War: Shogun 2 was released on the same day.
Initially, Crytek was going to work on it (Crysis 1, Far Cry 1) after THQ the IP owner went bankrupt, I had hoped that at least Homefront: The Revolution would have solid graphics. But it turned out to be later taken over by Deep Silver and the end result was like a sadder version of Far Cry 4. This is simply a sequel no one ever asked for.
3. Alekhine’s Gun
Games with a “social stealth” system like Hitman where you can disguise yourself and kill a target in front of a crowd of people without anyone noticing are very rare.
So when the name Alekhine’s Gun flashed a glimpse, I also had a little hope for this new game title. Moreover, the premise of this game is quite unique, telling about Soviet spies recruited by the United States during the Cold War. The perfect recipe for a fun stealth game!
But unfortunately, it is difficult to bet on an unknown name. Maximum Games as a developer is only able to present a much worse “clone” of Hitman with unstable frame rates, very buggy opponent AI, and a way of completing missions that is too rigid. It is deeply regretted.
2. Mighty No. 9
Mighty No. 9 was spearheaded by Keiji Inafune, the character designer (and considered co-creator) of Capcom’s most popular series: Mega Man. Promising a game similar to Mega Man, Inafune also brought this concept to Kickstarter to ask for financial support from the fans of the “Blue Bomber” left by Capcom. Nothing could go wrong, right?
Of course everything went wrong.
The game itself isn’t bad at all — although the 3D graphics are a bit depressing and the content feels lacking. But Mighty No. 9 was pushed back three times since 2022 before it was finally released this year, and before the game’s release, Inafune even made the animated film project Mighty No. 9 and another game, Red Ash, which won’t be clear until the end of the year. Not to mention, finally some of the initial concepts of this game (such as the ability to copy attacks from every enemy encountered) also canceled into the final product. How can gamers not be annoyed?
1. No Man’s Sky
The title of this one I think does not need to be introduced further. Even when the Duniaku.net team brainstormed for the worst game of 2022, the name of this adventure game was immediately mentioned!
Well, long story short No Man’s Sky with its procedural generation technology will be a game that is able to present a vast and content-rich space world, and allows players to accidentally bump into each other.
However, they were too ambitious and most of their promises failed to be fulfilled. Even the developer, Hello Games, had “disappeared” from social media for several weeks. But finally they appeared again and gave a new update — which unfortunately was too late.
