President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan, confirmed that the game on the PlayStation console will be brought to the smartphone version in the near future.
This statement is a continuation of information circulating last month. At that time, the company opened a vacancy for the position of Head of Mobile at PlayStation Studios.
Bringing Playstation Games To Mobile Version Is Nothing New For Sony
Previously, the company had dabbled in mobile gaming until it launched devices like the Xperia Play. But it hasn’t worked.
Bringing PlayStation games to the mobile version is also nothing new for Sony. Previously, the company had released Uncharted: Fortune Hunter.
The game is a puzzle adventure game for Android or iOS and is a spin-off of the Uncharted franchise.
PlayStation is also bringing one of its popular characters, Sackboy, into an endless run game called Run, Sackboy, Run!
It seems that the company wants to be more serious. During an investor relations session, Jim Ryan revealed that the company still has ambitions of establishing a number of PlayStation franchises primarily to mobile devices.
He cites how the company has had its share of success when bringing a number of titles to the PC version. So, moving to mobile is the next step.
“PlayStation has a large catalog of various first-party IPs that can transition to smartphone games and complement our AAA games or live service games. We’re exploring the mobile market with some great PlayStation franchises, so stay tuned.
Sony’s franchise includes God of War, Gran Turismo, Killzone, The Last of Us, and more“said Ryan.
He also said “We’ve been thinking about how players can enjoy our content and have had some initial success, experimenting in games and mobile apps to give gamers more choice.”
“Mobile is just one area we are exploring to reach millions of gamers outside of our platform,” he added.
In this way, a number of iconic characters on PlayStation such as Nathan Drake in Uncharted and Kratos in God of War will later appear in mobile games.
Game Series Sony Will Bring
The announcement made by Jim Ryan has not confirmed what game series Sony will bring.
On the other hand, mobile games like Crash: On The Run which is an advanced version of Crash Bandicoot have just arrived as mobile games.
There is also a Tomb Raider game character, Lara Croft who is seen appearing several times in a number of mobile games.
Beyond that, there is no further information about which game series Sony will bring to mobile devices.
But it does signal that Sony will be releasing more mobile games in the near future.
