Giratina is back on Pokemon Go once again. The legendary renegade is appearing all over the world in five-star Raid Battles, giving another chance to add one to your collection. That's not all: this time, you might even meet a Giratina Shiny for the first time.
As in the case of the Legendaries, Giratina will only be available in Pokemon Go for a few weeks, so you'll have to make the most of the time if you hope to get one. To help you, we've gathered all you need to know to challenge Giratina below, from battle advice to how to catch one. Shiny.
What is the difference between Altered Forms and Origin Form Giratina?
In the main Pokemon games, Giratina is able to take two different forms. When players first encounter the Legendary in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, it is in its altered form, the variant that will return to the Raids.
Giratina's Origin Form, in the meantime, is the aspect it takes when it is in the world of distortion, the parallel realm from which the legendary monster in tradition comes. The Origin Form has a serpentine body and statistics more oriented towards the offensive. In the main series, players are able to manually change the Giratina shape by giving the pkm an object called Griseous Orb; in Pokemon Go, however, Altered and Origin Forme Giratina are treated as two distinct Pokemon, so you'll have to capture them separately.
As with most other legendary Pokemon, before you can capture Giratina, you will first have to defeat him in a Raid Battle. If you are near a gym where a Giratina raid is taking place, you will need to physically go to that position and team up with many other players to win: legendary Pokemon have a CP that is too high to let you challenge them on your own. You will also need to have a Raid Pass to challenge Giratina, but you can get one for free by turning the Photo Disc in a gym.
After joining a Raid, you and your teammates will have limited time to defeat Giratina. So far it is the only Pokemon to be a Dragon and Ghost type, both weak to their own types. Giratina is also weak towards the Ice, Dark and Fairy Pokemon, so you should consider bringing monsters like Mamoswine, Weavile, Tyranitar, Gardevoir and Granbull with you to get a better chance.
